Step 1 · The person
Age, level, and what they want.
Instruction, working with minors, supervision and contact, and our limits.
Instruction built around who is actually in front of you rather than a programme applied to everyone. Progression is paced to the age and the level, which for younger participants means less load and more technique than most people expect. No result, selection or improvement is guaranteed, because those depend on far more than coaching, and anyone promising them is describing a hope.
Age, level, and what they want.
Paced to them, not to a template.
Technique before load.
Honest about progress.
Obtained, and showable.
Named, and not through me.
Acted on, not absorbed.
Told how it works in advance.
Where an activity brings an adult into contact with minors, there is a specific criminal record extract intended for exactly that, and a parent is entitled to ask to see confirmation. Just as important is a named route by which a child or parent can raise a concern without it passing through the person it concerns, because a complaint that has to travel through its own subject never arrives. Concerns about a participant's integrity are acted on rather than handled quietly within the group.
Supervision is matched to age, level and the genuine risk of the activity, and we decline a group size or a setting where adequate supervision is not possible, which occasionally means turning work down. Physical contact needed for technique or safety is explained before it happens rather than simply done. Changing facilities, travel and residential activities are arranged so an adult is not alone with an individual child where that can be avoided.
What risk it actually carries.
Sized so it can be supervised.
Explained before it happens.
Changing, travel, residentials.
Whether it is ours to answer.
To a doctor where it is health.
Stated, not inflated.
Ours stated, yours checked.
Instruction is not a healthcare act. We do not diagnose, do not treat injury and do not give dietary, nutritional or medical advice, and anything about an injury or fitness to participate belongs with a doctor. Coaching qualifications are stated rather than implied, and they are not protected professional titles in Belgium, so nobody should read one as a guarantee. Check your own accident cover: ours and yours are different things.
